DIWALI FIELD GUIDE · FOR OUTLET OWNERS

Diwali guide for retail stores

Help shoppers choose a gift while keeping offers tied to actual stock.

Published by Udooh. Use this plan in the days before the festival and during each busy shift. Adapt it to your own opening hours and staffing.

1. Choose an offer you can keep available

Check saleable stock before choosing a festive promotion. Record the exact products or variants included, the confirmed selling price and the date the offer ends. Separate display samples from stock available to buy.

Pick one shopper task, such as finding a gift within a budget or checking a product variant. Show the items that answer that task. Avoid a store-wide discount claim if only selected products qualify.

2. Build a useful display

Group gift options by a clear need or price band. Put the price and included items beside each option. If gift wrapping costs extra or takes time, make that clear before the customer reaches the till.

Use a digital screen for messages you can change as stock moves. A static standee is an unlit printed display; an LED-backlit light box still uses printed artwork. A physical product display lets visitors inspect the actual item. Choose the format your space and update routine can support.

3. Sample copy to adapt

Diwali gifting: explore [named products] at [confirmed prices]. Available at [store or counter] during [dates], subject to stock. [Gift-wrap details]. Ask our team about current colours and sizes. [Offer exclusions].

For a sold-out item: [Item] is currently unavailable. Ask our team about [confirmed alternative]. Replace brackets before publishing. Do not leave an old "available now" slide running beside an empty shelf.

4. Make the next step easy

Send a QR code to the relevant catalogue category or product page rather than a generic homepage. Test the link on a phone and check prices against the shelf labels. If the page cannot show live stock, say customers should confirm availability with the store.

Give enquiries an owner. A customer asking about a product has not reserved it. Explain when a reservation becomes confirmed and use your existing store policy for payment, collection and returns.

5. Check stock and signage during the day

Ask a named team member to check promoted items at opening and during shift changes. Use a replacement message when a key variant sells out. Keep price labels, screen copy and the till price consistent.

Place displays where customers can read them without blocking access. Keep product samples secure. If customers ask which items qualify, make the included range clearer instead of adding small-print text they cannot read.

6. Review what customers actually bought

End festive messages when their dates expire. Remove outdated price artwork and restore current product information. Ask for marketing permission separately from the sale and honour customers who opt out.

Record enquiries and completed purchases separately. Review margin after discount, packaging and other offer costs. Note which questions staff answered repeatedly. Treat untracked sales as untracked, even if the display was nearby.
